Attractions and Excursions in El Gouna, Egypt |
The desert: ferociously blazing, deeply silent, apparently empty. Majestic and imposing in its simplicity. The sea: crystalline, with its million hues of blue, its fertile, healthy marine life, unpolluted, a triumph of nature. A holiday in the area isn’t complete without a visit to the desert, whether to a natural location; to one of the unexpected, hidden historical sites scattered throughout this crossroad of civilisations that has been for centuries the Red Sea, or to the natural marvels of the sea itself. In El Gouna, many excursions can be done to some outstanding sights. Here is a selection of the most interesting places in the area. |

The El Gouna area is a place rich in historical sites and natural beauty. Your hotel will be able to organise for you guided or non-guided visits to some of these sights. Here is a selection of interesting excursions from El Gouna. | Tawila and Gubal Islands | Two idyllic desert islands are at only an hour cruising from El Gouna. A beautiful sailing boat takes you on to an adventure you will never forget. Dazzling white sandy beaches welcome you in a completely wild environment. Time for swimming and snorkelling on the rich coral reefs around the islands, and lunch is nicely served either on board or at the beach. Ideal also for kids. | Monasteries of St. Anthony and St. Paul | A two hours drive takes you back in history and to two of the most inspiring and peaceful places of the Red Sea, the places where monasticism was born. The monks at both monasteries will introduce you to an ancient fascinating world. Apt to everybody. | Luxor | Many people choose to combine a relaxing holiday by the Red Sea with the sights of Ancient Egypt and the era of the pharaohs. Excursions to Luxor from El Gouna are available either by plane, departing from the small domestic El Gouna airport, or by bus. The most popular excursion to Luxor is on a full day basis, with an early morning departure, but you also have the choice to spend a night in Luxor and see the awesome sights in two days. Other excursions are also possible, just ask your hotel’s guest relations desk. They will be able to direct you or hire a car or a cab for you. |
